Khammam school finishes runners-up in regional finals of academic pentathlonThe students of Vignan Junior College, Vadlamudi, Guntur, bagged the championship in the grand finale of the academic pentathlon held by The Hindu in association with Vignan University.
The Vignan students displayed their skills in the core subjects in the face of intense competition in the regional finals. Students from Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Kerala competed in the regional rounds.

The students — A. Leelagurucharan, N. Ramakrishna, R. Gopinadh, M. Sagar Mahesh, S. V. N.S. Manikanta, P. Jaswanth Bhavani, A. Sai Teja, S. Akhil, B. Nikhilesh Reddy, K. Dinesh — were given away the memento and the championship cups by Deputy Superintendent of Police, Guntur Urban Police (Traffic), K. Supraja. The students won 110 points in the five competitions — quiz ( mathematics, physics and chemistry), elocution, and fine arts.
The students of Harvest Public School (Khammam) — B. Lakshmi Prasanna, B. Sree Divya, R. Krishna Chaitanya, Ch Aishwarya, M. Tanuja, V. Vinayaka Sagarika, J. Vihari, K. Mahitha Varma Chanchal Agarwal and K. Likitha put up a spirited performance to bag the runners-up trophy.
Addressing the students, Ms. Supraja recalled her efforts to get into government service. “The Hindu is my favourite newspaper and the first time I got to read it was when I was in Intermediate. It took me two days to complete the entire paper!’’ Ms. Supraja said. Now, she completes the paper within an hour or so before getting to the office.
‘Enjoy studies’
Vignan University Vice-chancellor MVS Prasad inspired the students by asking them to enjoy their studies. The academic pentathlon had witnessed some intense competition and high quality quizzing by the quiz master, he said. The university would continue to support such initiatives to encourage scientific temper among students, he added.
Regional Head, AP, SDT Rao, Dean, admissions, Vignan University , N. Ravi Kumar, and N. Soorya Prakash, The Hindu, Chennai, were present.
The Hindu Academic Pentathlon is a competition designed for Class 11 (Junior Inter) and Class 12 (senior inter) and is a scholastic competition covering maths quiz, physics quiz, chemistry quiz, English elocution and fine arts.
